Fly Fishing

If you’ve come to Montana for its legendary fishing, you won’t be disappointed by the opportunities at our guest ranch. The Ranch’s four miles of private access and pristine river frontage on Rock Creek boast one of the state’s highest fish counts and seven species of fish: Westslope cutthroat, rainbow, cut-bow, brown, brookie, bull, and the Rocky Mountain whitefish. The “Creek” (really a small river) is famous for its salmonfly hatch starting in late May and lasting into July, as well as additional hatches including mayflies, golden stoneflies, and caddis. All rivers, creeks, and lakes are catch-and-release only.

The Ranch also stocks five spring-fed trout ponds. Mallard Pond, Piney Lake, East Pond, Cottonwood Pond, and Welcome Pond each provide a unique ecosystem and trout species. Several other of Montana’s Blue-Ribbon fisheries are within 30 minutes to two hours from The Ranch.

Our licensed and trained fishing guides are excited to share their professional expertise and to ensure that your fishing experience is both enjoyable and successful. Stop by The Rod & Gun Club to plan your day’s outing and to get fully outfitted with our top-of-the-line collection of rods, reels, waders, and flies.

Guided Float Fishing
Although parts of Rock Creek are floatable before July, most of the fishing on The Ranch property is walk and wade. For those who wish to enjoy a tranquil, yet fish-filled float, our guides will take you to one of several nearby rivers. World-renowned Montana rivers, such as the Bitterroot, Clark Fork, Blackfoot, Big Hole, and Missouri, are all accessible via a scenic drive of between 45 minutes and two hours from the ranch. Georgetown Lake floats and other area wade trips can also be arranged. The guides down at The Rod & Gun Club will set up your off-Ranch fishing excursion (and please note that this is one of few activities for which there is an additional charge).

Fly fishing in Montana is a not-to-be-missed experience.
