A Rustic-Luxe Thanksgiving at The Ranch

A grove of aspen trees lines Rock Creek, a Blue Ribbon trout stream that runs through The Ranch at Rock Creek

Welcome to fall at The Ranch at Rock Creek! This season is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque times to experience Montana’s wilderness. Winter Holidays & Hot Toddies

Our corner of Montana is ready for the winter holidays. We love the winter so much, we’re celebrating it with three curated specials.

Luxury private homes at The Ranch at Rock Creek are warm and cozy places to spend a winter vacation

December ushers in snowshoeing treks, UTV tours and sleigh rides. In between activities, there are opportunities to enjoy  our “winter warmers.” These hot drinks quench a cocktail-hour thirst, and they heat the body thoroughly, so you won’t miss a herd of migrating elk or a silvery sunset.

Mercantile Style: Winter Ranch Wear

winter-fashion

November is a perfect time to check your clothing and tack to see if they’re toasty enough for winter adventure. In similar fashion, The Ranch at Rock Creek’s Mercantile has been stocking clothing for winter.

In our first volume of Mercantile Style, we noted that a wild west “Merc” was part refueling station, part department store and part tailor. They offered products that were sturdy and versatile so that the snow is something you appreciate for its beauty, not its temperature. As one of the few luxury guest ranches to stay open all year, we delight in the changing weather and all its possibilities. Our winter ranch wear must always keep pace with the activities we offer.

Montana Holidays: Autumn Harvest

autumn-harvest-montana

To ranch in the Rocky Mountains is to be governed by the four seasons. As some of our favorite Montana holidays, like Thanksgiving, approach, we continue to celebrate a warm fall and extended harvest season. Hundreds of local farms and ranches have been bringing in their herds and crops, under the gun of hard frosts and snowstorms.

Built on the premise of using 90 percent local ingredients, The Ranch at Rock Creek kitchens can’t help but celebrate the overflow of fresh fruits, vegetables and meat that are available by the truckload from our most trusted suppliers.

Meanwhile, we had another reason to celebrate. This fall, The Ranch marked the completion of its 5,500 sq. ft. Buckle Barn. In late October, we celebrated these two occasions with an Autumn Harvest Weekend and Buckle Barn Grand Opening, where we invited guests, local purveyors and staff to break in the new space with a feast and dance that would make its namesake rodeo cowboy Buckles Standinger proud. Winter Travel: Luxury in Wild Montana

Winter travel to the secluded Montana wilderness and ranchland may sound more rugged than a trip to Aspen or Chamonix; however, the success of Disney’s Frozen, makes us wonder if more travelers want an unconventional winter holiday—bundled up and riding in a horse-drawn sleigh to a private winter hideaway. If you want to return to the feeling that powdery snow is much more than lift lines and crowded bars, then it’s time to raise your travel expectations and watch our winter travel video.

Montana Fall Vacation Ideas

If you are searching for fall vacation ideas, our Ranch at Rock Creek staff is a living, galloping guidebook of Montana experiences. They are our knowledgeable instructors, our wildlife scouts and our adventurers thanks to personal passion and professional pride.

With a dusting of snow on the highest peaks already, most fall vacation ideas and our fall special offers are as inviting as a fleece jacket and a cowboy coffee.

Our Ranch staff took a few moments to share what they look forward to each fall on Rock Creek. Many of our hired hands took root in Montana after growing up elsewhere, and they understand that, although summer gets the main billing, fall in Montana offers a more robust and satisfying glimpse of the Big Sky. Enjoy their fall vacation ideas, and we hope you’ll one day visit The Ranch to put them into action. Read more…
