According to General Manager Jon Martin, “Not a day goes by that I don’t hear from our guests that the people are what make this place spectacular. Even in an incredible setting, the staff is always what makes our guests return.”
At our Ranch Christmas party this week, the votes were counted and our employees of the year were announced. Though every staff member at The Ranch works in concert to exceed our guests’ expectations, Jon took a moment to explain the invaluable contributions made by this year’s award winners.
Front-of-House Employee of the Year: Ellie Walsh
Ellie is a Front Desk agent officially, but also did no less than 13 roles on The Ranch throughout 2019. Her smile in the photo above is the same smile she has every shift and how she greets every guest who arrives. She also has the most infectious laugh on property and makes every person’s day better when they interact with her.

“I am so thankful for this crazy life I live and having the opportunity to do so at The Ranch. I have a passion for people and the outdoors and The Ranch provides the perfect place for both.” ~Ellie Walsh, Ranch Concierge
Back-of-House Employee of the Year: Chuck Gursky
Chuck is an integral part of the Engineering team at The Ranch. Although not every task he gets is any easy one, you would never know it from Chuck’s demeanor. He is always positive and searching for solutions when the rest of us call him with our emergency repairs. We can all be confident he will do everything in his power to help.
“I love my job at The Ranch. I do what I do to help make each guest’s stay here a memory they will never forget. I enjoy the challenge and getting to work with the Ranch family.” ~ Chuck Gursky, Engineering Lead
Leader of the Year: Cat Johnson
Cat has been at The Ranch for a few years in several roles but really found her calling as our Recruiting and Training Manager. Our guests consistently ask me questions like,“Who hires your staff?” and “Who trains your staff to be so perfect?” and I always answer Cat Johnson with a smile. Without our amazing team of “Ranchers” here, we would not succeed and Cat deserves a large part of the credit for that.
“It was truly an honor to receive leader of the year, because we have an incredible crew of managers and employees at The Ranch. I started here three years ago as Retail Manager, then Front Office Manager, before transitioning into my current role in HR as the Recruitment and Training Manager. It’s my job to be an ambassador of The Ranch to potential employees, to be an advocate for the employees and to piece together individuals from far and wide into a successful team.” ~ Cat Johnson, Recruitment & Training Manager
We hope to welcome you to The Ranch one day for some traditional homestead hospitality, provided by people like Ellie, Chuck and Cat, who take service to alpine heights. If you’re interested in joining The Ranch team, view our current job listings. Happy Holidays!
